Business Property Tax Claims

If you pay UK taxes, either as an individual or a company, you are almost certainly entitled to a tax refund if you own certain types of property, as follows:

UK Commercial Properties - includes shops, offices, warehouses, factories, hotels, nursing/care homes, car dealerships etc.  In fact, almost any non-residential building used for commercial purposes.  As long as the property cost more than £200K, including development and refurbishment a claim can be made.  These properties can be either freehold or long leasehold (over 30 years).

Furnished Holiday Lettings - the property must be within the UK or EU and have cost £300K or more.  Claims on this type of property can only be made until 31 January 2012.

Houses in Multiple Occupation - if you own one or more HMO's you are almost certain to be able to claim substantial rebates from HMRC for past years as well as continuing tax reliefs for the future.  Minimum purchase price including refurbishment and development is £200K.

NFS is associated with one of the leading tax reclaim companies who specialise in this type of work.  The work is highly specialised, and they emphasise that they work alongside existing professional advisers to deliver the benefits to the client.  Utilising qualified surveyors they identify the element of Plant & Machinery within the cost of a purchased/improved building as defined within the Capital Allowances Act 2001, and process the appropriate claim for the related tax allowances.  It is emphasised that this is not a contentious tax avoidance scheme or loophole, but is based on established UK statutory law dating back to 1878. There is no time limit for these claims - the client can normally claim all the way back to the time they first acquired the property, or improved or refurbished it. Thousands of these cases have already been repaid by HMRC.

Payment for the service is entirely success based - there is nothing to pay unless a claim is identified.  If that claim is for allowances of less than £25K there will be nothing to pay - the client will be provided with the report FOC to enable them to pursue the claim themselves.
